It turned out to be nothing and reset the computer after logging it. I took my laptop and plugged in to see what the light was all about. My wife wanted a V70 Volvo and we went and test drove one that had the CEL on and the guy wanted to sell it cheap with the light on instead of taking it to the dealer. I've been bugging the guys at VW for some more answers.īTW, I love my VAG-COM. Has anyone done a re -flash successfully yet? I just hate to spend the money on the dealer when it's something that I can do myself. Each brand also requires a different subscription service. I think all cars from '04 on had to be compliant, but before then there is varying degrees of compliance. Unfortunately my car cannot be flashed with the J2534 tool - it's too old. Acura changed the shift points on the transmission to keep it from going into 5th gear at such slow speeds.

Changing out the glow plugs requires a change in the software to reflect the different glow plugs. As an example, there is a thread on the forum about the changes of the glow plugs from ceramic to steel. I've sent an email to VW on the matter to try to discern what we can or cannot do.Īs for why you need to re-flash your ECU or other modules, there are updates the manufacturer releases to solve problems from hard starting to changes in parts. Honda has a similar service and they charge $155 plus some other fees. The nice thing is that if you can get a few people together, you can split the cost and everyone update their software and program keys all at once. The logistics won't be the easiest, but I'm sure we can get it sorted. I would ship the laptop with the tool to you, you'd have it for a day and then ship it to the next guy. I think if I can get 40 people to be willing to 'rent' the tool with the access, for $75 a day, I can pull this off. Also with the service is access to all of VW's tech manuals. It's a pass-through service where the software doesn't reside on your laptop, it's just fed through the internet from VW right to your car. I'm checking to see if you can program your own keys that would be a HUGE plus in my mind.

You hook up the USB dongle to a laptop, hook up to your car, connect to the internet, log into VW's service website and proceed to re-flash your modules. All VW's at least '04 and up can be flashed with a J2534 tool and the VW service. I got a flash of brilliance (or maybe stupidity) and am considering purchasing the equipment and service to flash my own ECM. I really need to re-flash the ECM on my PD, but I'm cringing at paying the dealer $200 for it.
